Dieter Rams' Ten Principles of Design

Dieter Rams' principles of design uniquely introduce ideas and principles that are important to think about as a designer. Truthfully, I have never thought of how significant and relatable these principles are to our everyday living environment; but I enjoyed how Rams stated that "the design cannot dominate the human." This is so very true, the design must fit the living style and personality of people to allow a sense of fulfillment and joy in our lives. I enjoyed how Don Norman explains how design sparks and forms emotions within people, this ties back to Dieter Rams statement that design helps create our personality. The principles of design have an air of simplicity, therefore making it fairly simple for the designer to be sure the design is understandable, durable, timeless, and honest. These principles satisfy the consumer and will make them a faithful customer if they take to the design. These videos and articles were extremely informing and helpful to our current project because it allows us to examine objects that are important with our daily lives. It allows us to observe the history of objects and see if those principles have existed all along or were recently developed. These principles are a guide for us, showing the importance of improvement but also the simplicity and honesty surrounding the creation of objects.
